WHAT ARE WE GOING TO VISIT

• Mount of São Bartolomeu – It is an elevation of magmatic origin that emerges in the middle of a dune landscape covered by the Leiria pine forest, considered, therefore, an “island” of Mediterranean flora, which stands out from the maritime pine dominant in the region. It is the beacon for sailors, who can see it from more than 35 km away, all covered in black-green vegetation all the way to the top. Its historical-religious and natural interest is undeniable, due its connection to the Legend of Nª Sra. da Nazaré.
• Nazaré – is one of the prettiest and most cultural well conserved towns in Portugal. Besides being known for its huge waves, Nazaré is a very cute and small village by the coast, with a old fishing tradition – fish salting and drying – and a lot of old mores regarding boat constructions and special suits with a strong connection to the ocean.
• Praia do Norte – it is the place of the waves that are famous for being some of the largest in the world! Nazaré’s Canyon and location presents us with a natural phenomenon that creates waves as high as 40 meters tall, every year! The Season of the Gigantic Waves starts around the end of October, and continues until the beginning of March, and in November 2011, the legendary Garrett McNamara surfed a record-breaking giant wave almost 24 meters high, being the first person to successfully ride one of this waves!
